Semi-Retired / Musician, Composer, Producer, Audio Engineer, Senior Sales Engineer, Business Development Manager & Product Support Specialist. I have a vast working and operational knowledge of music, film and television post-production/broadcast processes and techniques, AV and IT Technology. This all adds up to more than 30 years working experience at a technical and operational level, both in professional studio environments and for professional equipment manufacturers. I have experience in problem solving for critical situations and can easily work with major companies and their users. I am experienced in giving product demonstrations, operational technical support over the telephone or on site, and also on-site training.

I have been directly responsible in high value capital equipment sales and all the administration that it includes. I have experience defining long-term organizational strategic goals, building key customer relationships, identifying business opportunities, negotiating and closing business deals, and can provide research information to identify new markets and customer needs.    - 1967 : Snare Drum studies / secondary school.

   - 1969 → 1971 : Private drum lessons with Bill Roth.

William E. Roth ``Bill Roth on Drums''  William E. Roth was born in Akron Ohio, and was a life-long resident of Ellet, graduating as president of his high school class in 1961. Bill was a well-known drummer and teacher who had been entertaining the Akron Canton Ohio area for over 43 years.

 

   - 1971 – Graduated with a High School diploma at CUYAHOGA FALLS H.S. - Akron Ohio / Major in music theory.

 

Principal studies withMr. Robert Feldbush. Robert Feldbush was a music educator with over 50 years of experience working with school music groups. His last twenty-six years of teaching music in the public schools were spent at Cuyahoga Falls High School in Ohio. in January of 2000 he received a distinguished alumnus award in music education from Kent State University.

 

   - 1971 → 1972: Continued 1 year of Traditional Music Studies at Kent State University / Ohio -- Major in music theory.

 

   - 1973 → 1975: Graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the Berklee College of Music, Boston U.S.A.

 

Professional Music Program and Audio Engineering studies. Founded in 1945,  Berklee College of Music is the world's largest independent music college and thepremier institution for the study of contemporary music.

Credited with teaching some of the most successful and influential players on the contemporary drumming scene, Gary Chaffee has earned the respect of musicians worldwide for more than 30 years. Chaffee has worked with some of the top players in the industry. A list of his students reads like a "who's who" of the contemporary drum scene, and includes such players as Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Jonathan Mover, JR Robinson, Kenwood Dennard, Joey Kramer, and David Beal. Hundreds of other successful drummers have come out of his "school" of drumming.

 ( In Parallel to Berklee ) Studies at the Boston School of Electronic Music. The first independent school of electronic music in the

 United States. Founded by Mr. Jim Michmerhuizen: Throughout the late sixties and most of the seventies, Jim Michmerhuizen was

 active in music recording and in electronic audio synthesis. He wrote the Arp 2600 Owner's Manual, and founded and operated the

 Boston School of Electronic Music. BSEM was a pioneer developer of courses and instructional materials in audio synthesis, with an

 international reputation. BSEM graduates can be found today throughout the industry.

           - 1974 → 1975 / Drummer & performances with the Recording Group Seatrain / Lloyd Baskin Group.

 

The Roots-fusion combo of Seatrain was formed from the ashes of the Blues Project -- following the exits of the New York-based

group's other members. Sir George Martin-produced one of their albums > "Marblehead Messenger". I replaced the drummer Julio

Coronado in 1974. The group broke up in mid 1975.

     FRANCE

              - 1976 – Accepted a 3 month working ( recording ) contract in Paris France, to work on an album and tour (I got stuck there).

              -  1976 → 1983 ( The Studio & Session Years ).

 

Self Employed - I became one of the top recording session musicians in Paris (worked also in London) throughout this entire time period, Drummer, Composer, Arranger, and Producer > highly specialized in drum and synthesizer programming ( MIDI & Sampling ) … A lot of hours passed in recording studios !

             - 1984 – 1995. Paris, France. OWNER AND DIRECTOR of of Mathias Productions.

 

A French company based at La Frette Studios in Paris France. My company’s activities involved all aspects of music & sound production, Audio engineering, Post Production, Composition, and musical & artistic direction. Consultation and assistant direction of "La Bande Son" ... Production Audio arm of audio for Canal Plus France. At La Frette Studios, we were also exclusive distributors of Fairlight music and post-production products in France from 1980 to 1995. I was involved in the Co-realization and production of over 200 soundtracks for television and film advertising, Working with film directors such as Jean-Paul Goude, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Tony & Ridley Scott, & Lester Bookbinder. Collaboration with Jean-Paul Goude for the orchestration of the of the Bicentennial ceremony for the French revolution (Champs Elysées – Paris) 1989. Co-production Musical for the entire "sonic" dressing of France 3 National Television. I was also a product specialist, Commercial representative and demonstrator for many Fairlight products including: CMI2x, CMI series III, CVI, Voicetracker, MFX2, MFX3, and MFX3+.

             - 1996 – 2004. Paris, France: GENERAL MANAGER / Fairlight France EURL.

 

Fairlight ESP PTY Ltd. in the desire to expand their market share in France, asked me to participate in the official creation of Fairlight France, where I accepted the role and acted as General Manager, Product Specialist and also as International demonstrator for Fairlight products.

     AUSTRALIA

               - 2004 – 2010. Sydney, Australia > Int'l  PRODUCT SUPPORT DIRECTOR for Fairlight AU Pty. Ltd. Moved to Australia. This International

                  role included:

Field based operational product support to the Fairlight worldwide customer base and Fairlight’s worldwide distribution network.

Complete product operational training for Fairlight customers and distributors at Fairlight HQ and on-site at customer premises worldwide. Pre and post-sales support, system definition, system design, and system network integration for complex digital multi-media production solutions. Full coordination of customer feedback for inclusion in the Fairlight R&D development plan.

              - 2010 – 2016. Sydney, Australia / International SENIOR SALES ENGINEER > Fairlight AU Pty. Ltd.

 

Within Fairlight, added on; working with the International sales team to help them explain and demonstrate the technological aspects of products being marketed. I prepared and delivered extensive technical presentations explaining products or services to customers and prospective customers. I became a key point of contact for clients, answering queries, providing technical advice, introducing new products, conducting educational seminars, and preparing tenders, proposals and detailed quotations. Specialist in Fairlight 3D audio.

Dolby Atmos, Auro3D, DTS-X, 22.2 (NHK), IMAX, customized 3d speaker arrays, and B-Chain management. This included sales, installation, and support for various production studios throughout APAC:

     - NHK (Japan)

              - 2014 to 2016. Sydney, Australia BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER APAC- Fairlight AU Pty. Ltd;

 

Within Fairlight I accepted the role of BDM specifically targeted to develop business within the APAC region. I worked to improve the organization’s market position and achieve financial growth. I defined long-term organizational strategic goals, built key customer relationships, identified business opportunities bringing onboard new and fresh distribution channels, negotiated and closed business deals and helped management maintain extensive knowledge of current market conditions. Within 2 years I was able to bring on and support firm distribution channels for Fairlight in the following countries:

  • Malaysia

  • Japan

  • Korea

  • Singapore

  • Thailand

  • Vietnam

  • India

  • HK / China

  • Australia / NZ

 

This obviously included extensive sales administration tasks such as forecasting and reporting, pipeline management, CRM management etc. Other aspects of my role included; developing new OEM technology partnerships within the market. This involved promoting the business brand at events, and conferences to evangelize the business offering/service. Developing a business development pipeline along with a understanding of client and market needs and thus communicating back to management and R&D to adjust product offering.

At the start of IBC 2016, Blackmagic Design announced its acquisition of Fairlight. I was hired by the new owners as Product Support Specialist. Working through this transition period offering:

     - Assistance in product improvement programs

     - Research for customer’s needs

     - Working closely with engineering to deliver reliable winning products.

     - Assistance in tradeshow presentations.

     - Support and Maintain correspondence and regular contact with customers.

 

I left BlackMagic Design in August 2017.
